I went and saw the 12:15 show after E3 last week. I am not a big Star Wars fan but the people I went with decided that I needed to go and see it with them, so I did. :)

Hope you had fun.

Hmm, I'm messing around with the tags & it seems I didn't quite get the previous post right (feel free to delete it).

Probably the single worst moment in the movie was Vader being informed he killed Padme. The “Nooooooo” had zero emotion to it, while the physical performance to go with it was a parody. It’s more like he was told someone he hates was dead & he faked caring. Aggh, horrible, horrible scene.

Funny you should say that, I know some people that went to see it again just for that scene. Unintentional comedy gold ? ;-)

I on the other hand didn't think Episode 3 was up to it really. It's better than the other 2, sort of.
The main problem is that the story is significantly better, while the acting & dialog aren't up to par. Many lines are awful & don't do the film justice. The best moments involved no speech (The wiping out of the Jedi was fantastic).
But a decent portion of Palpatines scenes were unintentionally funny (Others were laughing at the cinema too ;)).

While I've always been a big Star Trek fan, I would assume Starwars made more revenue.

Dare I say such a thing, but it seems to me there are a greater abundance of fanatical followers for Starwars who collect EVERYTHING related to SW. I've never known a fanatical ST fan, but I'm sure they exist.

But I've known many SW fans. These fans are people who spend mind numbing amounts on SW figurines, models, DVD sets and much more. I just don't see that with ST.

I also feel the brunt of popularity for ST is limited to the first and second generation series. The first series (during its three-season run) didn't do so well from what I hear, but had been resurrected at the box office over a decade later.

The movies were based on the old crew and later on became the next generation crew. But since, none of the new shows have really made their way into the big screen. These series include Deepspace Nine, Voyager and Enterprise. So these shows have probably generated only a small amount of profit. I wonder how being a tv series affects movie sales?

Why would SW do better than ST? Well, other than the obvious reason that people like it more.. SW has always been a big screen production, not a series like ST. I might argue that to enjoy the ST movies completely, you'd have to be familiar with the series which many people are not. The SW movies are much easier to keep up with in my opinion, because there's a limited number and a limited history behind them. It hasn't been something that has evovled on a weekly basis over 10 seasons worth of television. This may make SW more appealing to general audiences.
