      Hi Po`Girl

Thanks for your reply with the various attrib commands re my post on restoring NTLDR file. It worked brilliantly and I am extremely grateful for all the trouble you've gone to. I've lost track of the number of frustrations I've had over the past 3 or 4 years at the "No ntldr" message... and how many times I've had to reload windows.

On the downside, although the commands were correct, I couldn't get the commands to work as set out in your article, which I've copied below. When I typed in the command CD \ it simply brought up the C:\> cursor prompt. The only way I could get the attrib commands to work was to set the cursor prompt to X:\> where X is the CDROM drive. Then I had to type the prefix X: \immediately after the prompt, and then the attrib command. The following is an example of the final full command display:

      X:\>X: \attrib -h ntldr, ( X is the CDROM drive letter )

When using the copy command I had to leave out the X: \ prefix after the cursor prompt. The final full copy command looked like this: X:\>copy X:\i386\ntldr C:\.

Once I got the syntax right it worked like a charm. So thanks a million. Poppa Bernie Bear

"First you must reboot the system from your xp cdrom.
Then when prompted select the option to enter the recovery console.
Select the installation to be repaired followed by the administrator password.
Type Fixboot and answer yes to the prompt.
Then type in the following commands and leave all spaces eactly as they appear here.

      CD \
      ATTRIB -H NTLDR
      ATTRIB -S NTLDR
      ATTRIB -R NTLDR
      ATTRIB -H NTDETECT.COM
      ATTRIB -S NTDETECT.COM
      ATTRIB -R NTDETECT.COM
      COPY X:\I386\NTLDR C:\ ( X IS THE LETTER OF YOUR CDROM )
      COPY X:\I386\NTDETECT.COM C:\ ( X IS THE LETTER OF YOUR CDROM )

      Afterwards reboot"
