Earlier this week we got more details on Apple Watch, an Apple TV price cut, the new MacBook and an introduction to Apple’s new medical research platform, ResearchKit. At this week’s keynote address, Apple unveiled its new research framework as well as the first 5 apps built with it. Those apps, which were already made available for download, are getting off to a very strong start according to reports.

The app in question is My Heart Counts, which, as you might already know, tracks heart data, daily fitness and other things to be used in medical studies. Researchers from Stanford were more than pleased to have 11,000 participants sign up for the app in just one day.

Apparently those sorts of numbers for a medical study in just 24 hours are unheard of. The medical director of Stanford Cardiovascular Health recently said to get 10,000 people “would take a year.”

While there are already the five starter apps available to download, the ResearchKit framework wont be made available to the public until April. The other apps include Asthma Health, mPower for Parkinson’s Disease research, GlucoSuccess, and Share the Journey for Breast Cancer made in conjunct with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, Penn Medicine, and Sage Bionetworks.

Apple clearly stated during the recent keynote that it wouldn’t be seeing any of the data being passed through ReaserchKit-made apps, but you can see more details on what the new framework has to offer here.
