the guy who hooks me up with stuff is offering me 2 cards right now. geforce 6600 256 mb for 190$ or 6600GT 128 mb for 210$.... does the memory make a difference in these cards? is it worth the 20 bucks more for the better card?
also i heard increasing the video aperture could help so the vram wouldn't matter as much....?

(p.s. i know i can get them online for a little cheaper, but there's no shipping, and this guy always gets my stuff and helps me out when stuff goes wrong so thats why i buy from him)

thx for the reply. ive decided on the 6600GT. they seem to be out of stock everywhere on the 256 mb 6600 GT's btw...

i also am looking at the geforce 6600 vs the 6600gt but i have a $200 spending limit so are thier any other cards that i could look at for under $200 that would give me great results? and what makes the gt faster?

i once saw a side by side comparison of all the 6*** cards cant seem to find it now lol. but the 6600GT has sli, ddr3, etc... features that the 6800 has but nothing earlier like the 6600. i am going with the 6600gt like i said

6600 vs. 6600gt

I think it is the actual structure of the cards make the difference; the 6600 GT has more shaders and vertical pipelines than the 6600. Beyond that, the 6600 GT has a core clock speed of 500Mhz vs 300Mhz of the normal 6600. Also the effective memory clock speed is 1000Mhz vs. 550Mhz, so quite a difference. If you want even more clock speed Leadtek makes an extreme edition 6600GT, that I believe has a core clock speed of 550Mhz and an effective memory clock speed of 1100Mhz that is up there with the 6800 Ultra, except for the fact the 6800 Ultra has 256 bit bandwidth vs. 128 bit like all the 6600s. In the ATI family, the only thing close to the 6600GT is the X600XT or the X700 Pro, and both were blown away by the 6600GT in numerous tests.

The 6800 ultra is a 16pipe gpu, while the 6600 and gt are 8 pipe, 6200 4 pipe. It isn't all clock speed, you have to figure in the pixel pipes and the memory interface as well.

so then i am assuming that you recommend the gt?? and if i do get the gt would the stock fan that nvidia puts on it be enough? or should i keep a extra fan on hand
