ok ive decided to get either e refurb 9800 SE for 91 , or the 9600xt for 106. now ive looked at the stats and according to what i read, the xt is better. what do you think. which will be better for doom 3?

The only 9800SE worth anything is Powercolors because it has a 256bit memory bus, its actually a regular 9800. It runs at 380/680 and can usually be OC'd a good bit and some of them can be softmodded to a 9800 Pro.

A 9800SE might be a good choice because you could get lucky (You don't have to be very lucky either...) and get one that can soft modded to a full 9800.

Out of the box, a 9600XT will perform about the same or even have a little edge over the 9800SE.

My Hercules Prophet Radeon 9800SE All-in-Wonder has 256-bit memory bus too, and the GPU runs by default at 400 MHz. I don't know about memory speed. I've never had a 9600 so I can't really compare, but I think 9800SE is a very good choice.
