Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 was one of the best games released on the PlayStation 2 and original Xbox, receiving critical claim and widespread praise for its fun skateboarding mechanics. 13 years later, Activision has decided that the series deserves to be continued.

Later this year, Activision will release Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5, a new entry in the franchise that will be available on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, with PS3 and Xbox 360 versions to follow. While more recent titles in the Tony Hawk line have been rather mediocre, Pro Skater 5 will be a "return to the classic gameplay of the series' heyday."

The game is being developed by Robomodo and Disruptive Games, and will see classic skateboard action paired with power ups and "the ability to shoot projectiles for specific missions". There will be a collection of new levels to check out, which feature missions you can complete either by yourself, or with friends via online co-op and competitive play.

There aren't a whole lot of other details about Pro Skater 5 at this stage, but Activision has clearly been working on the game for a while now, hinting at its development more than a year ago. Unfortunately it looks like there won't be a PC version of the game, despite the most recent title (Pro Skater HD) being released through Steam.

Despite apprehension around Robomodo's involvement in Pro Skater 5, considering the team developed the worst Tony Hawk game to date (Tony Hawk: Ride), there's hope that the new title will bring back the ultra-fun gameplay of the original Pro Skater line.

There is only one acceptable excuse for playing this game instead of actually doing it - being handicapped either physically or mentally.

No PC version? Just when I was about to throw my money at you...
