I know I sound pretty dumb asking this question, but what does overclocking do?

if you overclock does it shorten the life of your processor? I read something on it on some website ( i don't remember its name" but it said it shortens your processor's life.

    Thanks,

heat will shorten the life of a processor, overclocking will make ur cpu run hotter, overclockers usually are on top of cooling anyways so its not a problem with better than stock cooling methods, from bigger heat sinks and heat sink fans, to case fans, even case designs can affect the temp inside the computer, and water cooling is available to.
