A very serious problem involving the blue screen and a ticking noise

Ok I have had this problem for MANY months now and learn to put up with it. However this problem is now taking the biscuit.

Occasionally the computer will make a "ticking" noise and everything with freeze for 1 second per tick.

As soon as there is 4 ticks I get a blue screen and have to restart the computer. One day I noticed doing a Disk Defragment somehow sorted the ticking for like a month, but now it does it regardless so I think i hit a fluke.

My computer is around 4-5 years old now, only the G-card and motherboard have been replace (and fan but that came with motherboard)

I have suspicions its the Hard drive as I did a google search and I think its basically a sign "CHEAP SKANK GET A NEW HDD" and a sign the HDD is failing...

If anyone knows what could cause the ticking, and/or how to sort it that would be great.

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

It`s probably a good idea to start backing up your important data. Just in case your hard drive fails.

Go HERE and follow the instructions.

Start with the instructions for testing your hard drive.
