Access protected disks

Trying to use complete system backup software, keep getting an error message "cannot restore and access protected disk".
Also states " to secure your system backups use the encryption feature".

Been trying to do a complete system backup on 80GB USB external hard drive.
Would appreciate any help in deciphering the above error message.

sounds like xp or W2K protected system files don't want to be copyed
try adding everyone to the security section of drive
right click on the drive letter left click properties
click add select users groups add everone edit this to include write to
if this doent work the drive may have been write protected by someone.
