Accessing Win2k desktop from xp

I can't access my Windows 2000 Pro desktop from my new XP laptop. I want to be able to transfer files and use the desktops printer. I have gone over the network settings with a fine-toothed comb but nothing I've tried works. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.
