something's wrong with acrobat. I've reinstalled it 5 times and it freezes everytime I open any large PDF file. It doesn't freeze right away... but in a few seconds it freezes every time.

that's normal. Large PDF files decompress and that takes time. Be patient.

or try Foxit Reader. Its a 1MB, standalone .exe that works better then Acrobat. No need to install it.

how much RAM do you have? - it can take a long time to decompress if his memory is low.

well... when it freezes it eats up NO processing power. My CPU activity is just about zero when this thing freezes. And I tried leaving it alone for 15 minutes and that made no difference.

It just gave me a funny error... something like "server busy"... what does that mean? It's just a pdf file...
