Add or Remove Programs does not work at all

My laptop had to have Windows XP Professional reinstalled. Now several programs do not work like Word and Wordperfect. I need to reinstall them. But first I have to uninstall them. When I go to add or remove programs and hit the remove/change button and any program nothing happens. Please, does anybody have a clue what I can do. I have several programs that I need to uninstall and reinstall because of this. Thanks in advance for any help!

Try looking at the Programs in the Start Menu and see if there is an uninstall option listed there. Some programs have them, some don't. If so, try that. In the case of WordPerfect, at least some versions have an uninstall option you can run from there. I have version 10 at work and versions 9, 11 and 12 at home. 10 has a Corel uninstaller. Off hand, I don't know for sure about the other versions.

Doesn't Word have a detect and repair function under "Help"? Have you tried that?
