After logging off Have to restart computer manually

I have windows vista. When I log off my desktop and leave it logged off over night, my mouse freezes and I cannot wake up my computer. so I can log back on I have to manually shut it down and start it. When I do that it hangs up and the resume windows screen come on then it takes awhile for it to load up to my log on screen. What could be causing this to happen? How can I fix this?

I would boot into safe mode and then do a full scan with an updated antivirus. Then run your disk cleanup. If that fails and the problem still exist then I would suspect the hard drive is going bad.

Run cleanmgr twice; once on your login and again using runas /user:administrator cleanmgr

Then boot safe mode and scan
