After reformat computer displays "disk read error"

My laptop needed a reformat so I inserted the disc and began the reformat like always. After the drive was formatted and then rebooted windows prompted me with a message "disk read error" ctrl+alt+delete to restart. I also tried this with 2 other OS discs i had for other computers. I checked making sure it was booting from hdd rather than the cd and still same error occurred. What would cause this error? Thanks in advance for your help.

If you have formatted your HardDrive, then you will get an error on booting from it (ie this is normal)
You will need to re-install Windows (with CD as first startup option in CMOS)
If you want Windows back again
