Touch the computer power button cause its an old computer... Well not really cause its like ducktaped... kinda... and its like... scary... imma call some kinda 911 on him just incase....
and can you use a different power cord in the bugger?

and he took it apart and has old old parts varying from 1999-2004... ok Results may vary consult your doctor before use.
o.o want instant death in a emachines?
buy a nickputer

If it is an AT style case/mobo, then you have the mains power running through the power button. No, it's not a good idea to mess with that. If it is an ATX or something similar, then there is no substantial power going through the button.

See where the power switch connects - if it goes to the PSU, then it is AT. If it connects to the motherboard, then it is something else.

The case is a T2642.
I aint quite sure of Emachine's cases...

the harddrive that was in before the power was higher it says on it and i put a different one in and the power for it is lower and i put the same cord from the power supply into the harddrive

not the tower theres wires comming from the power supply that goes to the parts

It had a 40 gb and i put a 20 gb in and the 40 gb that was in it took more power it says that info on these white labels and the 20 i put in takes less than the 40 gb that was in and i have the same wire from the power supply into the 20 gb that was in the 40 gb

He needs to know which cords to use.
