Amazon won big at the Oscars with Manchester by the Sea. To celebrate the Academy Award, Amazon will be giving every house in Manchester-by-the-Sea a full year's subscription to Amazon Prime as well as a 3-pack of Wickedly Prime popcorn. This all comes in preparations for the movie's release to the Amazon Prime video streaming service this Friday.

The town of Manchester-by-the-Sea, known simply as Manchester, is nearly 400 years old and has a population of just over 5,000 people. The thank-you will come in the form of a gift box sent to every home sometime this week so the residents can enjoy their namesake movie with popcorn.

Amazon Studios, the film production arm of Amazon, received a total of seven Oscar nominations this year. Of that, they ended up winning 3. This includes Best Actor with Casey Affleck in Manchester by the Sea, Best Original Screenplay with Kenneth Lonergan and Manchester by the Sea as well, and Best Foreign Language Film with Asghar Farhadi and The Salesman. Although not produced by Amazon Studios, Amazon Prime Video will also be adding Best Picture winner, Moonlight, to the lineup on May 21.

I think this is a great move to create strong brand loyalty in the town that they made famous. The extra 5,000 customers also can't hurt their bottom line either.

Americans didn't steal your city names, chalk that up to your ancestors' lack of inspiration :))

Actually I think it's quite cool, I live in Sheffield, A city with a population in excess of half a million, But Sheffield Alabama is a town of 10,000. Would be quite nice to visit :)

Yeah, but if you visit America, don't bother with Alabama. You need to go to California, New York, D.C., Texas or Florida. If you're looking for scenery, then go to Montana, Oregon, or Arizona.
