AMD, Nvidia release optimized drivers for 'Dragon Age: Inquisition' and 'Far Cry 4'

Two of the season’s most anticipated games – Dragon Age: Inquisition and Far Cry 4 – launched today and if you picked up either (or both), you’ll likely want to snag the latest drivers for your AMD or Nvidia graphics card(s).

Starting with AMD, their new Catalyst 14.11.2 beta drivers are optimized for both titles and are compatible with Radeon cards from the HD 5000 series all the way up through R9 290 series for desktops as well as most notebook, AIO and embedded solutions running Windows 7 or newer.

In Dragon Age, AMD promises performance improvements of up to five percent with single-card setups using anti-aliasing. There's also an optimized CrossFire profile. Far Cry 4 players can expect a 50 percent performance increase with a single GPU and AA enabled.

AMD has disabled the CrossFire profile for Far Cry 4 as they continue to work with Ubisoft to try and get performance on multi-card installations up to speed.

Nvidia gamers, meanwhile, will want to snag the new 344.75 WHQL drivers. In addition to boosting performance in Dragon Age and Far Cry 4, the latest from Nvidia provides support for MFAA mode as well as improvements for The Crew and World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor.

MFAA, or Mutli-Frame Anti-Aliasing, is a new method which is said to deliver image quality that is comparable to 4xMSAA with a performance hit that is similar to using 2xMSAA.

Speaking of, we have performance benchmark results on the way from Far Cry 4 and a review of Dragon Age: Inquisition set to publish in the near future so keep an eye out for both of those.

BTW, We'd like to see a DA Inquisition performance review.

Ya would love to see DA: inquisition aswell as far cry 4 benchmarks.. didnt buy them yet cause system requirements are of no help these days....

DA performance review would be most welcome, specially on the cpu department, which I haven't seen so far. It is, definitely, the most cpu intensive game I've ever played and I'm under the impression that my 4.2GHz 2500k might be bottlenecking my gtx 980 in this particular game. So, I'd love to see how other cpus fare on this game.

I'm trying to keep my nVidia driver updated. Looks as if I am going to stop for awhile. They are releasing WHQL drivers more rapidly than I care to install them now.

Agreed. I feel as though every time I turn on my rig there is an updated Nvidia driver.

I can confirm the amd driver improves frame rate. I added about 4fps after the driver update, based on the dragon age Inquisition benchmark. 4 fps is mainly unnoticeable for me though.

That's what I call "optimized". I have a 295x2 and before the update I could barely reach 30 fps in Ultra, but now, it runs at about 80fps... Strange though, I had he latest "stable" driver for AMD, it shouldn't have made such a difference...
