AMD preparing to vacate Sunnyvale headquarters, sources say

When I worked for them, most of AMD was in Texas anyhow. Just one fab and 'corporate' in SVL. Now they are fab-less but... I never did understand why they were in the most expensive city anyhow... So much of that work can be done anywhere, you don't have fabs anymroe so... move. Make the stock I still have worth more (something).

Might as well more their HQ to China at this point. AMD has sold out to the commies so they can suck it. Even at identical price points Intel is better now. Only AMD's video cards are worth owning, and ONLY the top end products.

Intel blocked AMD from the market, essentially felling the dominos to where we are now. Are you telling me that AMD is worse than Intel when AMD's actions are a result of Intel's? Or that it licensing it's IP to stay alive isn't a valid option for them?

What is this, the 50s? There's nothing wrong with being a communist and there are many communist systems in place in america. Stop using it as a battle cry, it's dumb.

Wonder if Massachusetts/Boston is going to try to court them? They've been chasing a lot of companies lately (GE being the largest one they've attracted recently). MA has been especially interested in ones that are likely to have a role in the IoT, Robotics, and medical devices industries. "Generalized' (CPUs, GPUs) hardware is plateauing, and more specialized hardware is on the rise.

nVidia has already started focusing on IoT and Robotics with their Tegra TK1/TX1 processors, AMD would be wise to follow their lead.

NVIDIA's IoT offering is very interesting. I didn't know they were in that market until recently. Need to keep an eye on it!

The allure of Silicon Valley may finally be dropping and AMD is smart to look for smaller and cheaper digs. In my business I have spent the past 5 years moving a number of different companies and their HQ's under the same requirements. Surprisingly, the South seems to be one of the more choice locations with lower taxes and good comparative night life. Who knows "the South may rise again" might be the new corporate battle cry .....
They just need to come to RTP!
