AMD unveils major GPU driver update, Catalyst Omega

It seems like great news for all those AMD owners, specially those with several headaches. Enjoy!

Installed it on windows 10 without uninstalling the drivers that came from windows update (mobility 5000 series). I had a few blue screens before and I hope this will fix it. So far I've had no problems.

From the AMD driver site:

"Package contains the following graphics drivers and dependent/required software for the products specified in the current version's official release notes for the 64 bit version of Windows 7:

Display Driver ver. 14.501.1003"

Where is the mention of Windows 8/8.1 ?

Updated last night on water-cooled, OC'ed 290X running in x-fire. No issues (wasn't having any before either). Performance gains were minimal in my games, but overall seems "smoother" some how - maybe better quality, but same FPS?

Allowed the automatic update process on a Windows 7 Pro machine and the drivers took.

Catalyst Version 14.12 AMD Catalyst Omega Software
reported by Control Center.

I get a black screen during installation from a full clean install. Boot up and it seems to be in stalled but no catalyst manager. Haven't tried to launch a game yet but I'm not too hopeful.

Bug Fixes
-14.9 install issues for intermittent crash or black screen after install

Not fixed for my setup anyway :)

Game crashed, installed Catalyst manager, doesn't list any driver installed.
Now after downloading again from AMD and installing over the top of my failed install it did so without error. Now patched with atikmdag-patcher and Custom Resolution Utility has given me back my 94Hz option. Now time to load a game and see what happens.... *fingers crossed*

I am really happy with AMD. They are really trying to improve their driver updates and this makes me a proud user since their driver updates have been slacking lately compared to nVidia. That all changes now. @Steve will you be benchmarking these drivers?

I have 14.9 drivers, is it recommended that I do a clean install or upgrade?
I would recommend a clean install. Especially since this is a big update.

I upgraded directly on my son's computer from 14.9 and everything went unbelievably well.
Definitely good to hear. Really proud of AMD for getting a stable driver out there.

Great to hear the 6000 series install worked flawlessly. Gonna upgrade my 6000 series rig now.

Well my wake from long sleep issue is gone, only to be replaced with garbled graphics and flicker. Reboot seems to make everything normal.

Thanks for the update to these drivers. I did download them from techspot yesterday. But I had to install it 4 times and 3 of the 4 with techspot version of the driver. It would never install. I had to download the driver directly from AMD and that installed perfectly on 4th try.

I am using APU 64-bit though but your technical shown it supports it. I have two systems here that uses APU so right now the main running smooth. Second one later today.

Good post anyway!

Throwback to the past..

If I didn't have such a terrible experience with my ATI card when I had it, I'd consider trying AMD again. Well, maybe if they get a tool like NVIDIA Inspector..

Regardless, good to see ATI/AMD shaping up. Now if only they could do it on the processor front and stop Intel's monopoly in the enthusiast space..

FINALLY they fixed problem I had to live with for years - finally my monitor does not go dead after minutes of inactivity, it could never be woken again and I had to restart my PC. I ended up having my monitor on all times without sleep mode. But now, with this driver release my monitor goes sleep after 5 minutes of inactivity and it wokes itself up again every time.
I am using Radeon HD 7970, HDMI cable, iiyama monitor.

For those still having trouble after updating, I recommend downloading DDU from here, uninstalling everything AMD video related in Windows. Then, reboot to safe mode, run DDU, choose AMD and then "new card installation", reboot to windows, install Omega fresh.

In my experience, doing several successive updates from Windows without clearing everything up tends to end up badly at some point.

As a long time supporter of AMD all I've got to say is
it's about god dam time AMD pulled its finger out and
started learning off Nvidea and release drivers
frequently not every once in a while. During the
update process you are introduced to a number
of confirmation boxes instead of one button that
say's download. In frustration, I say it takes some
Co's a long time to get their act together and AMD
is no exception. I hope this is the start of frequent
driver roll outs, something Nvidea has been doing
without breaking a sweat.

Overdrive tab is still there!
Judging by some of the comments, it looks like half of you are having ID 107 user errors.
