android wear launch google android

It seems like just yesterday when Google announced Android Wear, the modified version of Android designed specifically for smartwatches and the like. In reality, it's been nearly six months and counting. Now we’re hearing rumors that version 2.0 of Android Wear is just around the corner and could be packed with some notable improvements.

An unnamed source recently told Android Police that we can expect to see over-the-air updates for some Wear devices on or around October 15. They expect it to be timed well with the release of the highly anticipated Moto 360 and the LG G Watch R.

While the publication doesn’t have any solid leads as to what the update might contain, they venture a guess that GPS and Bluetooth headphone support are solid bets. It’s also likely that Google will use the update to fix a lot of bugs, make it easier for create custom watchfaces and add some additional features that we haven’t even though of yet.

Another unknown at this hour is the naming convention that Google will use. Will it be a big enough update to warrant the 2.0 branding or will the search giant go with something completely different?

The report seems to corroborate what we heard earlier this week from David Singleton, director of engineering for Android Wear. During a recent Q&A session, he said several Android Wear updates are coming before the end of the year. That said, the October 15 update could be the biggest of them all.
