Another abebot / wml.exe

  1. Hi!

I'm a user who has also been infected with the abebot / wml.exe worm.

Since it appears that the removal is a pretty individual process, I'm posting my HJT log in hopes of someone helping me remove this pesky worm.

If there is more information that is needed, please let me know and I'll get it posted.

Other than it's been sitting around unused for a while, there is no reason it's SP1.

Thanks for the starting point. I will run the Anti-Malware and post the MBAM log on Tuesday.

Ok, it should catch a few of those entries, then we can remove the left overs manually. Then we can tighten your security and get everything up to date.

You may want to copy and paste this into notepad and save it to your desktop to have open while in safe mode

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [OPSE reminder] "C:\Program Files\ScanSoft\OmniPageSE2.0\EregEng\Ereg.exe" -r "C:\Program Files\ScanSoft\OmniPageSE2.0\EregEng\ereg.ini"
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [IBqJYLle4c] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\upmbmzkv\utexmlsb.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Policies\Explorer\Run: [IBqJYLle4c] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\upmbmzkv\utexmlsb.exe
    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)
    O16 - DPF: {EB387D2F-E27B-4D36-979E-847D1036C65D} (QDiagHUpdateObj Class) -

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Close HiJackThis. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Please go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following (if present):

Please note any other programs that you don't recognize in that list in your next response.

Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore"), please delete these folders (if present):

    C:\Program Files\ScanSoft
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\upmbmzkv

After that, Reboot, and post a new HijackThis log here in a reply

    Thanks again...

I've deleted the entries you advised from the last HiJackThis.

The scansoft did not exist in the add/remove programs (in safe mode). All other programs listed were ones I did recognize.

Removed the 2 folders using Windows Explorer.

Attached is the new HiJackThis log that was run on a fresh reboot.

    Good work Mary,

Let's run an online scan to see if that picks anything up.

    Run Kaspersky Online AV Scanner

Order to use it you have to use Internet Explorer.
Go to Kaspersky and click the Accept button at the end of the page.

Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the licence, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license accepted, reset to 100%.
    • Read the Requirements and limitations before you click Accept.
    • Allow the ActiveX download if necessary.
    • Once the database has downloaded, click Next.
    • Click Scan Settings and change the "Scan using the following antivirus database" from standard to extended and then click OK.
    • Click on "My Computer"
    • When the scan has completed, click Save Report As...
    • Enter a name for the file in the Filename: text box and then click the down arrow to the right of Save as type: and select text file (*.txt)
    • Click Save - by default the file will be saved to your Desktop, but you can change this if you wish.
Attach the report into your next reply
