I heard its a replacement for the 8500. If so Id like to get it. Newegg is the only place Ive seen that sells it. Im getting ready to build a new rig and Im still stuck on the video card. I want to keep it under $100.

From what I heard, it's the exact same thing as the 8500, except with a different name. Anyway good choice on a budget card, I have that card in my brothers computer and it works well with every game out there.

Yeah, it's an 8500 at heart but it outperforms the 9000. They were in such high demand that ATi released them under a new name, and the rest is history.

why not get a gf3 ti200? Better card than the 8500 and the 9000 for a lower price...

A G3 ti200 does not outperform a radeon 8500 or even a 9000 for that matter. I have all three cards and the G3 ti200 is the slowest of the three.

GF3 Ti200? You're so kidding. It's only 'better' than the 8500 in the world of unresearched half truths you seem to be spreading.

Interesting. From pricewatch...
Radeon 8500LE - $66
Ti200 - $82
(both 64MB)

Wow, that's quite the deal to me. Looks especially pleasing since the Ti200 is so much 'better' than the 8500, even the LE. The LE still edges out the Ti200. Even the original GF3 is superior than the Ti200. Even the 9k beats the Ti200 - which is pathetic.

Why would you reccomend to someone getting a video card that is both more expensive and offers lower performance than a different card?

Just to prove my point, this is 3DMark 2k1 SE:

I agree very much with Veh, all the reviews i came across regrading the comparison between 8500 series and the Ti 200 have stated that the 8500 series edges the Ti200. Never have i seen Ti 200 cheaper than any of the 8500 series. Thats why i got myself one of those 8500LE 64MB.

see the thing is, the gf3ti200 outperforms the 9000 and is cheaper. I believe on 3dmark2001 the 8500 out performs the gf3ti200 by a few points. However, the gf3ti200 is incredibley overclockable, since it basically is the gf3 ti500 with a lower clock speed and a little bit smaller memory modules.

If you take a look at the benchmark that Veh posted, you'll see the 8500 64mb outperforms the GF3ti500...

Now consider that you can turn the 8500le 64mb into an 8500 64 mb just by flashing the BIOS...
Then you'll have a card which costs you 66$ outperforming a card which costs 231$....

This is without taking the features of the 8500 and the better visual quality into the equation...

If you take them into account, the reasons for choosing the GF3ti200 over the 8500(le) are even further diminished (if not entirely eliminated)....

But if you can think of any new/rephrased arguments, I'd be interested in hearing them :)

the G3 Ti200 DOES NOT outperform the Radeon 9000 pro. I have both cards and have run them in two identical systems and in the same system. the G3 Ti200 did 6930 in 3D mark 2001 SE the 9000 pro does 7350.

in actual use the 9000 gives faster smmother play in jedi knight 2 thanthe G3 Ti200 which exhibits quite a bit of slowdown in that title.

Look at the benchmark. The difference even between the 8500LE 64MB and the Ti200 128MB is 1300 points! In 3DMark, 1300 points is by no means a few.

Even your Ti200 overclocked to 233/550 - which seems to be the maximum - does not outperform my 8500 at stock speed - 275/275(550 DDR). You can also get the card in my system for $60.

My Gainward ti200 gets ~7400 in 3dmark2k1. Of course it's a gainward and OC's quite well. I run it at 225/210(420) easily.

I've never had any issues in JK2, the only time i've experience problems of video lag is in the IGI2 beta when the bomb goes off (the flames and smoke play havoc with my framerates then).

Im leaning towards the 9000 Pro 128mb. Newegg has it for $97. They have the 9100 128mb for $91 but the 9000 seems to have better specs.

Radeon 9100 is better than 9000pro

Radeon 9100 is better than 9000/9000pro... I just bought one and apprantly its basically the same as a 8500le... as long as you dont buy a crap one with really slock clock speeds mine is 250/250ddr and over clocks, without problems around 275-280

Correct me if I am wrong I am new to this stuff but I have asked a lot of questions in the past two weeks!
