Application Hang

My computer keeps locking up. When I check Task Manager, programmes I have already closed show up in this window and say they're still running. These programmes are mainly Access Databases. I've checked Event Viewer and the error says it an Application Hang (Event ID 1002). Tried going to Microsoft Website, but get totally lost! Any ideas on where to go from here?
