Are IDE/SATA to usb 2.0 cables good to buy?

Hi guys. Recently i've been in the need of one of those ide+sata to usb cable adapters to retrieve info from laptop harddrives and desktop ones. I've seen many of this cables at ebay and amazon and i'm interested in the ones that have both interfaces IDE and SATA that come with a power supply; maybe one of you have one of this adapters or have seen them. My question is, are this adapters reliable ? any of you have ever used them? are they good adapters? or will i get a total mess around here ?

I happen to have an IDE only adapter but since I haven't used it yet, I can't evaluate it for you. One thing you can do is go to Newegg.com and take a look at the examples they have for sale and see what the reviewers have to say about each one of them. It may not be definitive proof but you can get a general idea of their reliability.
