Are Widgets bad for your computer?

Friend of mine claims that having widgets running on your comp (XP-Pro OS) will screw it up. I'd like to know about the validity of the statement... (and if they will mess things up, how exactly?)

I'm using Yahoo! Widgets Engine, so its not integrated into the OS, but still, not sure.

I've never heard of anything like that.

Just make sure you got it directly from the Yahoo site and you should be safe.

It is true that the widgets are taking up system resources that other applications could be needing, but it's either that or no widgets.

The only way it will "mess up" your computer is that you will have extraneous processes running which may slow down your computer a bit. Otherwise it not going to hurt anything in any way, as far as I know.
