    hey everyone.

i just bought an asus a7n8x deluxe motherboard. i don't know much about video cards. what is a good basic video card for this board? i won't be doing much gaming, mostly just regular home use.

This is what the specs say.
    Expansion Slots 1 x AGP Pro/8X (1.5V only)
    5 x PCI

So i guess i need some type of 8x board?

    thanks

If you won't be doing much gaming a GeForce 4 4200 / GeForce FX 5200 or an Radeon 9200 / 9600 should suffice by far. See which you can get the cheapest & go for that.

I agree with Didou. A FX5200 / Radeon 9200 should do you fine.
You don't need a 8x board - a 4x board will work fine and i think (check this first) that a 2x board will work aswell. However, 1x definatly won't. So, if you have any old 2x/4x boards lying about you can probebly use them if you don't plan on doing any gaming.

I am using a Radeon 9800 Pro with 256mb with this board, and have had no problems. I play COD, COD UO multiplay, Farcry, Doom 3, Halflife 2, warhammer 2000. The only game that gave this card a tough time was Doom 3, but now I'm getting around 50fps at second highest res, at medium quality, and it looks pretty good.

I'll probably wait a year or two before I upgrade, and this runs fine fo now.

    Good luck.
