AutoPlay problem.

Firstly, this problem does not seem to resolve by conventional strategy.

I have a Compaq Presario with two optical devices:

1. ASUS CRW-4824AH (CD Read/write)
2. IDE-DVD Rom 16x (CD 40xRd)(DVD SX Rd)

I had a system crash and reinstalled Windows XP, using the Asus CD Rom Drive and everything was so far fine. (IMPORTANT: At this stage "Autoplay" was functioning properly with CDs placed in this drive.)

Now here begins the strange bit!
I had backed up my previous folders and files and now RESTORED them to the new Windows XP installation.

THEN, in order to stabilize the "restore", I performed a Windows XP "Repair".

This worked ok...CD Rom in CD Rom Drive. However, towards the end of this XP Repair, the CD Rom Drive was suddenly not recognized by the repair process and I had to place the Windows XP disc into the DVD DRIVE WHERE IT CONTINUED TO FINISH OFF THE INSTALL!!!!!!

So...now...everything's working fine EXCEPT that there is now NO AUTOPLAY function from the CD Drive, although the drive functions ok in every other way.

I have tried the Windows Tool, Tweak Ui and checked registry settings but nothing I can find will resolve this problem.

Anybody any ideas? This is a tough one...lol!

Yep....been through that one!

Perhaps I should have said "AUTOSTART" rather than autoplay. I.E. A data CD will no longer autostart, although I can force the action from within My Computer.
