I don't seem to be able to find out how to keep AGV anti-virus 7.1 from scanning my hard drives when my computer starts, this very annoying, as my system becomes very sluggish until I manually turn it off.

Look for any scheduled task relating to scanning (rather than updating). Select it and click edit. Make sure that the check box that says "if missed start immediately when computer next starts up" is unchecked, and click ok.
Hopefully that will stop it. (I think!)
