Batman V Superman producer: Rotten Tomatoes is killing movie culture

Err, bad directing is killing movie culture. The movie was bad, it does not matter how much it cost to make or the talent of the crew. If the director is not doing his job the whole thing breaks down.

I personally thought the film was trash and I didn't think much of suicide squad either yet I saw both in the cinema. Wonder Woman is likely to be awful too if the rumours are to be believed.

I think the real issue is they are the following the well executed Marvel movie's and falling short of the mark. They had a lot of promise but didn't live up to the hype. It reminds me of AMD actually (Although the jury is still out on Ryzen).

I rarely look at RT's ratings and usually use IMDB's where anything above 6/10 is generally worth watching.

Lol @ so many comments here. I have the same advice for this guy as I do for Trump. If everybody tells you your no good, maybe it's not everybody else... maybe it IS you.

I`m watching, like, 10 movies per week. Its my biggest passion at this point of my life. I couldnt care less about scores on imDB/Rotten Tomatoes, yes, I think that I understand art of cinematography better than most people so I cant value average score voted by average people who watch movies about comic book heroes. Thats not even cinema anymore. Found many great gems who score like, 5.1 on imDB who are better than all Betmens and Spidermens put together.

Such a likeable fellow... "middle america" rant? lol, maybe casting afleck killed your rating?

When it comes to RT, I value the audience way more then the critics score.

The Dawn of Justice score was of particular annoyance to Ratner. It cost $250 million and grossed nearly $900 million worldwide, yet has a Tomatoes rating of just 27 percent.

People consume $hit, no matter how $hitty, so I'd say that was some expensive $hit.

If he made a good movie, it would be reflected there
If I screw up making a cake and its ugly but it tastes really good, how are you going to rate it?
Some people will rate it very high, others will not.
If a car goes real fast but it looks like sh!t, how are you going to rate it?
Some people will rate it very high, others will not.

There is a lost common ground on what makes a good movie. It doesn't have to be executed perfectly to be enjoyable or even great. Batman V Superman has near a 65% approval rating for average consumers...people liked it overall and it made 900 million. Critics are upset because many aspects of the film could have been done better. The RT's score is based on executional issues but it's pretty obvious people enjoyed it.
Listen I am not saying BvS should be at a 90%, but its enjoyability score is much higher then its execution score, thing is, which one factors more into your score?
The Fifth Element has a 71%... that movie IMO should be in the 90's.

If you screw up a cake's appearance then any known food critique is going to give you a 60 out of a 100 at best. First, cakes are one of the most basic things you can make. Second, food critics consider the appearance to be half the score

" Some people will rate it very high, others will not."

And that's their subjective right. Critics on the otherhand have to consider the whole.

At the very least, Rotten Tomatoes has always been very hard to get a high score and they are consistent with that. I would rather have to scale mount everest than some small pile of dirt because the former is much more of an accomplishment.

It is rather funny that you point out millennials as a cause of this. Should these critics just hand out participation badges to every less than perfect movie?

I wish I had the time to watch that many movies. Going in blind is really the best way to surprise yourself. You know your preference better than any Critic.

I've read some of Rotten Tomato's scores and reviews. He has a point. There should be a minimum IQ level to be able to post on that website and give a score.
lol.... the problem is, people are generally not that bright...

Think of someone you know who is of "average intelligence"... they're pretty dumb, aren't they? Now... realize that half of the world is DUMBER than that person.... scary, isn't it!

Nice George Carlin quote

I honestly skip the critic reviews on rotten tomatoes, but the audience score I think gives a much better clue as to how a movie or show is. Iron fist got an 18% from critics and an 82% audience, that's a pretty big difference. Show maybe wasn't as good as Daredevil but was still I thought a pretty good show. Even Suicide Squad it was 25% critics and 63% audience. It was flawed but still some cool parts to it.
If rotten tomatoes wants to fix the PR problem that seems to be on the rise they should use the audience score instead.

Well, Ratner mentions that RT is killing his BUSINESS, and that's a good thing. Movies, games and music should be an ART, not a money grabbing tool for L.A. and Wall Street execs. Start creating better "product", good reviews will follow, or spend more on misleading marketing and hope just for heavy premiere night money. Gaming industry went that way and they complaining but they are fine.

This gives Rotten Tomatoes far more power than they actually have. I think 'word of mouth' is far more powerful

One should not judge a movie by what others say. If one is interested in the subject if the movie, one should watch it and judge it.

Reading reviews from fans or opponents of the movie will either influence the perception or will be a spoiler of the story.

Everyone perceives the movie differently.

Only zombies follow other zombies.

One should not judge a movie by what others say. If one is interested in the subject if the movie, one should watch it and judge it.

That's why B vs. S grossed so highly, people didn't judge and actually gave it a chance. It was still cr@p.

The wise director, creator, etc learns to accept public criticism and adjust their product to meet the growing public desires. Only a loser whines about the critiques and expects people to feel sorry for them. If it's boring to humans, robots will simply go into sleep mode and could not give a flip about your complaints!

IMDB is more useful - you can click on ratings & see a breakdown by sex, age etc . RT critics always punish std movie fare - It's very snobby. - If you just want an entertaining 2 hour escape RT is not for you - Even really good movies can be downgraded for being derivative WTF . Mills & Boons or Penguin can pump out millions of books based on story number 1 - Boy meets girl - they won't get the Booker prize - but they will mostly sell.
RT is useful for arguing things like toy story is the best trilogy ever. Or Taxi Driver is a great movie because ....

I noticed years ago that rotten tomatos gives stupidly low scores for ALL good movies.
In fact, I think it is a bad dud of a film critic and I completely ignore anything it has to say.
The director shouldn't take it personally. Rotten tomatos is broken and I don't think many people care what it has to say.
And People realise this pretty quickly.

If he made a good movie, it would be reflected there. That movie was utter garbage and couple that with the fact that nowadays a movie ticket can cost upwards of $20, it better be worth my money!
It wasn't utter garbage, for the budget and Batman/Theme, it wasn't the best compared to Iron Man, Avengers, Spiderman etc... but compare it to High School Musical 1,2,3 and it's a masterpiece.
It was a lot better than I expected based on RT reviews.

Why are people going after RT. It is just a place to gather reviews in one place. It is not RT fault if a reviewer hates the movie. Honestly if you don't like rotten tomato don't read it. I learned a long time ago not to listen to critics. If I want to see a movie, I see it. I do not base my movie viewing on critics. A perfect example of this was the movie Get Out. I wanted and did see it. I didn't read any reviews about it until I saw the movie. I love it. I have recommended it to others. I have only run into one person (whom I didn't tell to see the movie) and he hated it because he didn't know it was a horror movie. I told him that was the best part of the movie. Now the movie did get 100 and 99 percent fresh, that's good. I read reviews after I saw the movie.

I have not seen any DC movies at the show because I have no desire to. When I do get around to seeing them, they are just awful, imo. Yes, DC is making money, but I do not know anyone who does repeat viewings of those films. yes there are some but not a lot do.

Bizarre that people still go to theaters, when home theaters are so much better today. The two things that keep me away: 1) You can't pause it. 2) Other people.
Oh yeah, and $10 popcorn.
