if you consider 80k+ to be mid range pay. Many people would consider that high pay these days.

I don't consider a salary within any range at all. At least here in Ireland (where taxes are relentless) all good developers are contractors, so I only consider daily rates. For Oracle Admins they are about average today. For example, good JavaScript developers make about 20-25% more.

At the moment here Oracle Admin contracts top at about 450 euro a day, and 575 for JavaScript developers.

In the US, only about half of those sorts of positions are independent contractors. Most work for outsourcing firms and a small but signifigant number are still in-house pros. The thing is, its not enough to be just a DB admin anymore - you need to be a back-to-front developer who can do it all. But you WILL make good money for wearing all those hats.

To cut the BS, those roles are medium-paid these days, not high-paid anymore, and they are on the decline.

80k is mid range in well paying markets, entry level in some parts of finance. It's only high pay if you're doing low level grunt work (retail, etc.).
