Does anyone know what would be the max and absolute best CPU for this mobo and how do I determine which is the best?

Either fx-60 or opteron 185 would be the fastest that were made for 939 afaik.
The two chips are basically the same, except the fx is multiplier unlocked for multipier overclocking.

I don't think they have an official current cpu support list, now that they don't produce motherboards anymore. I've seen other people online successfully using fx-60 cpus on the vnf4/ultra, and I'd assume the 185 would work(no reason it shouldn't work), since my opteron 165 dual core worked fine(same core, but different multiplier).

Make sure you have bios 5.0 or higher to support dual core though.
