Big problems with computer

Hi, when I turned on my computer it shows nothing but the background. There were no icons or toolbars, and the only i manage to be able to do was shut it down again. Even the task manager doesn't work. Please help me solve this problem and thank you for your support.

Please post the brand and model, or the model of the motherboard. Age of computer, and OS installed, as well.
Based on what you report so far, it could be an infestation or a failed component... such as a hard drive. but the fact that you can actually see something on your screen is hopeful...
