BIOS finds and loads the OS

I am new to this forum and I was wondering if someone here could help me. I am doing a paper for school and I was wondering if someone could give me the steps of how BIOS finds and loads the OS on a computer. I am really confused on this. Can someone please shed some light on this for me?
