Bios update coincides with increase in fan activiy

I have an AMD3200 with 1gb ram running Xp(in brief). I updated the bios in my pc via the HP website and now the fan is having these spontaneous bursts of activity.

While its most likely not a problem its annoying. I can understand it picking up pace during a game or something.

At the moment, say every two minutes or less, the fan kicks in fullspeed (and noise) for about 10 seconds. This is during nothing cpu intensive just standard desktop usage.

What i'm wondering is if its a case of wear and tear (concern) and mainly if i can stop it from happening except when practicle. Any help appreciated.

If this really bothers you, replace the stock CPU Heatsink Fan with something else

It was never an issue in the past so i don't think thats the only option. Somethings causing it to do this, whether it's the bios settings or what I don't know.

Yes, it is common for manuacturers to tweak the fan thresholds in BIOS updates.
Your best bet is to find some program that can override the BIOS settings or just revert to an older BIOS version.
