Black and White 2 freezing with NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 card

By btphelps
Dec 31, 2005
  1. Just upgraded to NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 card so we could run Black and White 2. Game is still freezing. Running Windows XP Home, Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG, AMD Duron ~1.3GHz MMX 3DNow processor, 512MB RAM; DirectX 9.0; 200 W max 328 W power supply. Checked power requirements for all installed perpherals, totalled 285. Removed one CD ROM drive and one multi-card reader, reduced power requirements to 234. Any other suggestions? Should I upgrade the power supply?

    Thanks in advance.

quite possibly the lack of power in your comp. make sure you have the most up to date drivers for the vid card and the most up to date direct x. a neat little tool that you can use for analysis is the direct x diagnostic tool. go to start, run, and type in "dxdiag". (no quotes) this'll tell you the main things that you need to know about your comp. Feel free to post it here in the thread.

    Ran dxdiag, thanks

Thanks, ran DxDiag already, that's what enabled me to tell you as much as I did. It appears you may right about the power supply, as my amended post shows. Current power consumption is about 217 watts.

Here is the an abridged version of the DxDiag results:

    Found answer

Found that the CPU requirements for the game call for 1.6Mhz, while this machine is 1.35Mhz. Will have to look at other machines in the house or upgrading the CPU.

    Thx.
