Black screen after computer is turned on

(first im not sure if this is in the right thread, move if you can, and thank you. Also sorry my english isnt so good either)Every time I turn on my computer(windows xp) it runs good until after the gateway logo. After the logo, the screen has nothing on it, but the line thingy that flashes and appears when you are typing. I try to push a letter but the computer makes the same npise whe i push any buttom.

i meant to type noise not npise. Any help, ideas, or suggestions? And ive had my computer for 4 years.
