Black Screen

I have a laptop ( hp Pavilion Ze5500 ) I will close it while its still running, so my goddaughter wont get into it, and when i open it back up the screen is black and i can't wake it up with the mouse or anything. The only way to fix it is shut down with the power button. Does anyone have advice on how to fix this?

try going into your display settings and setting the hard disks and power to never go to sleep. See if that does anything. Also, instead of hitting keys or moving the mouse to wake the machine up have you tried just taping the power button once instead of holding it down to shut it off.
