black startup screen

hello

Every time i have turned on today a black screen comes up and asks me to pick a start up profile, the only one there is profile 1, i think it is something like hardware profile recogfigertion menu(??)
then when i do click it is has loads of dots already in the password box which don't all delete. i have run system restore and all the anti virus etc software i have, but that is the extent of my knowledge. i have not installed any new hardware for months, or software. also it is not a new computer it is about 15months old and has no problmes- until today!!!

is it possbile for someone out there to help me at all please???

Go to you desktop right click my computer + Hardware + Hardware profile the make sure it doesn't wait for you to select it but it does it itself.and make sure that there are not other profiles in there.Wish u luck.Robin

thank you for your reply. I've done that and it only had 1 profile in it. is that good? it was the defautl profile too.
