Sorry for the repeats. Let's check and see if there is indeed a bootkit:

Please download MBR Rootkit Detector and save it on your desktop.
  • Pause/Stop all antivirus/spyware active protection.
  • Then double click on mbr.exe to run it.
  • Select Run when you receive a Security Warning
  • The process is automatic, a black DOS window will appear and disappear suddenly. This is normal.
  • A log file will the be created on your desktop where you ran mbr.exe
  • Copy and paste the contents of mbr.log on your next reply.

Your original problems:
1. My computer is running slow
2.I had a blue screen yesterday.
3.McAfee today said that a trojan was removed: Artemis!D7A66DDA4489.
4.I noticed in Tasks that (2) iexplore.exe were running.

What problems remain?

I don't know if there are still problems ... per your instructions, I have not rebooted my computer in several days while we were running the fix.bat nor have I used it for anything other than going online to make these post.

Do all the logs look okay? Should I go ahead and reboot the computer?

Please reboot the computer. Let me know if any of the malware related problem remain.

Thanks for the help Bobbye. I'm still getting redirected on my searches, startup is still extremely slow, and I got another BSOD (INVALID_KERNAL_HANDLE) ... so I'm going to take it to the shop.

You can go ahead and close this thread ... thanks again for the help.

Sorry I got stuck in having you run the Bootkit Remover so many times! Don't know what got into me. Of the problems you mentioned though, the redirects are from malware.

"Slow" is an unknown at this point. Something you might want to consider> There are 19 Services and Drivers running. 18 of them belong to the McAfee Security. This is part of the reason for 'slow.'

Hope you get to the bottom of the problem. I am closing the thread at your request.
