Blue screen error - no idea what to do!

Hi,

I am hoping someone can help me, I am not exactly very computer savvy and I am home having a heart attack at my blue screen!

Was working away and got a Windows Update message to install a service pack for XP - which I did (and am now regretting).

Was told to restart, and did.

Then when restarted I got the blue screen message. My error is:

STOP 0x0000007E (0xc000001D, 0xF78E28EA, 0xF78E27F4, 0xF78E24F0)

I have tried to start in all the different 'safe' modes but I can't. It just takes me back to the blue screen.

I have a huge report due this afternoon which is on the hard drive of that computer!! I have my laptop (which I am on now) but that won't help get my report.

As I said, I am not very computer literate so any help in easy to understand language would REALLY be appreciated!!

The computer is a Dell optiplex 745 if that helps.

How many memory sticks do you have?

I have 2 - one 4G and one 2G (do you mean those little USB sticks?)

I also have a 500gig external drive which i just connected (it is only half full) and then rebooted.

I still get the blue screen but now I have different error numbers:

STOP 0x000000FC (0xBA5078E8, 0x0B009963, 0xBA507848, 0x00000001)

Take out one of the sticks and run your system. Is it stable?
