Recently, my cable modem had died, it kept on sparking up (almost caught on fire) so we had to go and replace it. We got a smaller and newer model from the cable company , the Motorola SURFBoard SB5101. I soon began to notice my download speeds were extra slow with the new modem, before with the big bulky Cable Modem i had better download speeds but it was garbage and kept breaking down. Can anyone tell me why and how to fix this?

(I can now notice 100-300kb differences in download speeds)

Cable Modem: SB5101 from RoadRunner
Former Cable Modem: same brand but older model... cant remember.

Software Version: SB5101-2.4.1.6-SCM02-NOSH
Hardware Version: 1
MIB Version: II
GUI Version: 1.0

DownStream
Frequency 615000000 Hz
Signal To Noise Ratio 37.9 dB
Power Level 4.6 dBmV

UpStream
Channel ID 7
Frequency 32000000 Hz
Power 55.0 dBmV

Speed test results:
898.6 kilobits per second
Communications 898.6 kilobits per second
Storage 109.7 kilobytes per second
1MB file download 9.3 seconds
Subjective rating: Good

Can you also post the specs of your old system? This will probably provide a solution.
