i have amw s99 dvd player, can i connect my stereo speakers(without amplifier) to my dvd player with rca jacks( 2 jacks 1 for left and other for right). is there any limit for how many watt speakers can be connected with it (with woofers). it has one optical jack also, can you tell me what is the function of that.

Headphones with a volume control, yes. Speakers, not without an amp, or speakers that have an amp built in. But a small home reciever doesn't cost much these days if that's really what you have in miind.

The quailty of your speakers wil be the limiting factor as far as power.

The optical jack is for hooking up to your amp or powered speakers with a digital signal. If you have a reciever that has Dolbly Digital Surround you can get 5.1, instead of just stereo.
