Can you disable DMA in XP Pro???

    yep, go to Device Manager and set the IDE controller to PIO that you want to change.

    why did they change it from previous o/s's where you could disable DMA for each drive itself? just wondering.

    you still do, you just do it from the properties of the controller. You don't have to change both devices, they are each listed, along with dropdown boxes to choose the mode.

    It is so because DMA is done by the controller and not the drive. You might as well want to change 3D aceleration settings in monitor properties.
