Broni - I neeeeed a break from this problem considering I have another 6 laptops/ tablets. I have found a work around to my problem of not being able to access Microsoft downloads and have been able to update windows. If I run a search or down load after a restart it works! If I am feeling a bit more motivated / refreshed in a couple of days, I will run the various software you suggested above. Many thanks so far.

Hello Broni, yes I am still with you. All of my computers are running fine at the moment. I am loath to do any more because I believe in the axiom - 'if it ain't broke don't fix it.' I will keep monitoring the computers and I am very thankful for your assistance to date.
