cannot install xp.. please help?

  1. hi just posting this again in what i hope is correct forum. i cannot install xp on pc. hard drive reformatted but always comes up error loading operating system. read advice on similar prob ( go to bios put 1st boot from floppy 2nd cd rom 3rd hdd) repeated process but same result......im just going around in circles........can anyone help???? i am a novice and it is my brothers pc i have mangled!!!....any advice greatly appreciated. regards, longchalk

    Alright longchalks,
    Boot sequence: CDROM, Hard Drive, Floppy. Strip the system down. Remove any modems, network cards, USB adapters. Use only 1 stick of memory if you have more than 1 stick. Place the XP CD in the CD drive and boot the system. You should see "Windows is examining your hardware..." Follow the on-screen instructions from there

    u might want to first try out another hd, could just be an hd problem that your trying to install xp in.

    EDIT: if thats not an option you can always scan the hd for any bad sectors.
