Cannot properly install Flash Player 9 ActiveX for IE 7

Greetings! I'm a first-time poster, so thanks for having me here :D

I'm building a website for my company that has some Flash elements. I need to try it out in different browsers to make sure everything's OK. My problem is that I can't get the Flash 9 plugin to install for IE 7 - it works fine in Firefox and Opera, though.

In IE 7, I went to the Adobe site and downloaded the plugin. I get a message in IE asking me if I want to allow it to run, and I allow it. After a short while, the Adobe page reloads and it looks like the Flash content that's there to let you know you've got it installed properly is about to display. But then nothing happens - the Flash on that page gets replaced by a couple of quotation marks.

I've tried:
- rebooting after installing the plugin, but that didn't work.
- uninstalling and reinstalling IE 7, then installing the Flash plugin, but that didn't work.
- installing the plugin with my firewall off (Zone Alarm), but no luck.
- installing the plugin under the Admin user account - no go.
- searching for Registry errors (ActiveX - specific)

So, I'm stumped - my other browsers display Flash content with no problems. If I didn't need to test this project in IE, then I wouldn't even care.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!
