Can't boot Windows XP Pro

Have a Dell 8200 Dimension and had to reboot as the system appeared frozen. During the boot up received a Stop Error: 0x0000007E and it would not proceed. Was able to resolve the system so the Stop Error does not appear but now it will boot to the Windows XP Professional splash screen, black background and the trailering ribbon going left to right. The splash screen will disappear as though it is going to the log on screen but doesn't. The background is black at first but after a couple of minutes it turns to blue but never goes to the log on screen or desktop. Tried to boot to the last know workable configuration but nothing. Tried to boot in "Safe Mode" but nothing. At all the screen the cursor is moving so the system is not frozen. Tried to repair the existing installation but same results. Tried to install windows over the existing one but the same resullts. Ran Chkdsk /r and it did prompt that it found and fixed one or more errors on the volume but I still have not been able to boot to the log on screen or desktop.

Any help?

Try deleting the current boot partition, create a new one, do a full NTFS format and try to install Windows again.
