I've used Windows XP for 3 years without reformatting, but recently it crashed and these are the following problems:
When I try to start the computer normally I get a BSOD saying REGISTRY_ERROR x00000051.
When I try to run in safe mode it freezes when trying to load
I found a microsoft post saying to go to the recovery console and copying and deleting some hives (http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?kbid=307545, but i was unable to copy c:\windows\system32\config\software c:\windows\tmp\software.bak
so then i decided my only hope was to reformating the hardrive (no option to repair). After I select the partition and press L to delete it, it says Unable to format this partition.
i cannot start safe mode or last known config that worked.. safe mode freezes on agp440.sys
perhaps there is a way to repair my registry with the windows XP disc in the Recovery Console?
