cd-rw problem

    i need help....
    i juz fixed up a new rig but my cd-rw slows everything down in the beginning.it's so slow tat it took me 5 mins to get to the win2k startup screen n it juz hangs there

    Athlon XP 1800+
    MSI KT333-Ultra2
    1x 256 PC2700 333 Kingston
    Elsa Gladiac GeForce 2 MX 400

    n 1 more thing.....
    when i shut down my OS
    it goes to the 'it is safe to shut down your computer now' screen
    it doesn't power off by itself.(i'm using a atx casing)

    any help would be grateful

    How have you got your IDE's (Master,Slave etc) Set up ?

    primary IDE master n slave - my 2 HD
    secondary IDE master - cd-rom
    secondary IDE slave - suppoesed to be my cd-rw

    worked on my old rig though......:confused:

    And it's definatly set up to be a Slave ?, It's not on Cable Select or anything ? :)

    tried changing my cd-rom to slave
    n cd-rw to master
    still the same.........

    did you try a HD/CD HD/CD setup? Make sure the CD's are both slaves.

    Are you forcing IDE controller to use Ultra DMA in CD-drives (in BIOS)? Some drives don't like that. If that's the case, set DMA to 'automatic'.
