Cellular Signal Amplifier

This is kind of a random question for this forum, but I figured if anyone will know it will be someone hear. I just moved into a dorm in college and I only have 1 bar of cell phone service at best in my room. Outisde service is perfect. The problem is that the building is made of brick. I was wondering if anyone knows of somewhere that I could get some sort of signal amplifier to boost my signal? Also, if there is such a thing out there, have you used it and had it work/heard of it working well? I really don't want to have to spend my year sitting outside to talk on the phone. Thanks in advance for your help.

The only thing I know of is an external antenna, if your cell phone can attach to one.
